July Meeting

MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING JULY 14, 2009

 

President Dick McDermitt called the regular July meeting of the Franklin County Agricultural Society to order on July 14, 2009 at 7:00PM in the Ganyard Building on the Fairgrounds.

 

Roll call showed 20 members present. Those present were Becky Applegett, Jeff Ball, Rachel Bausch, Brian Boggs, David Brobst, Dan Conkright, Molly Davis, Gary Dever, Emily Gabriel, Roger Headlee, Roy Hoffman, Jeff Karn, Jim Krebs, Dick McDermitt, Allison Rushley, Barb Rushley, Paul Schemrich, Tim Shade, Bill Walton and Dick Witteman. Melissa Brinkerhoff was a guest. Elizabeth Hirth represented the Junior Fair Board.    

 

Ball moved Conkright seconded that the June minutes be approved as submitted. Motion approved.

 

Treasurer’s report was presented by Treasurer David Brobst. Copy attached. Gabriel moved Barb Rushley seconded that we accept the Treasurer’s report. Motion carried.

 

Walton moved Barb Rushley seconded that we pay all bills on hand. Motion carried.

 

SECRETARY’S REPORT:

 

Shade reported the water wagon is now complete and does an excellent job in the sand arena. We were requested by Paula Brookes to do recycling.  Drainage work in Burke is complete. Schemrich moved G Dever seconded that the secretaries be accepted.  Motion approved.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

Allison Rushley reported that our Advertising agency was doing an outstanding job for us. We have good press coverage in newspapers as well as radio and TV advertisements. Several TV stations will be doing live shots during fair.  4-H float contest was a success. Brobst moved Schemrich seconded that we use an outside party to determine who won the contest. Motion approved. Ball moved Conkright seconded that we accept the report motion passed.

 

Barb Rushley reported that there will be 45 in the Teen Idol contest, 6 dance studios are coming to fair. Junior fair applied for $7000 grant from Best Buy for purchase of Martech online entry software and a bar scanner. A Rushley moved Bausch seconded that we accept report. Motion approved.

 

Beth Boomershine said due to a death in a family, they can not make it in by Saturday at 8 AM with their rabbit entry and requested permission for late arrival. Brobst moved the rabbit be allowed to come to fair on Monday, seconded by A Rushley. Motion approved.     

 

A Rushley requested that Boy Scouts be allowed to pull exhibits on Saturday night after building close so that they could be moved to state fair. Walton moved Schemrich seconded approval of request. Motion approved

Beth Boomershine asks permission for 4-H Advisory Committee to have a Chris Cakes Pancakes breakfast in the entertainment tent Saturday Morning at 7AM. B Rushley motioned for approval, seconded by Brobst. Motion approved

 

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

Shade said John Ross tried to repair roof of Burke but it still leaks in some spots.

 

 Ball moved Boggs seconded that we adjourn. Motion approved

MINUTES OF SPECIAL FAIR BOARD MEETING JULY 24, 2009

 

President Dick McDermitt called the special fair board meeting of the Franklin County Agricultural Society to order on July 24, 2009 at 1:30PM in the Rigsby Building on the Fairgrounds.

 

Roll call showed 12 members present. Those present were Becky Applegett, Jeff Ball, Dan Conkright, Gary Dever, Scott Dever, Emily Gabriel, Roger Headlee, Jim Krebs, Dick McDermitt, Barb Rushley, Tim Shade, and Bill Walton. Melissa Brinkerhoff was a guest.    

 

The minutes of last meeting were not available and there was no Treasurer’s report.

 

SECRETARY’S REPORT:

 

Shade said fair was going well considering the weather. We were ahead of record attendance at start of day 5 but weather held attendance to less than 400 that day.  ATM machine seems to have a lot of use and is well received. The Sanitation Service cleaning bathrooms seems to be an asset as well. Shade said we seem to have a lot of small issues but no major concerns. Walton moved Conkright seconded that the Secretary’s report be accepted.  Motion approved.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

Barb Rushley said we did less than $3000 in pit passes for the first Tractor/Truck pull. Raised the question as to how many individuals board members could take into pit area for free. Emily moved G Dever seconded that each board member be given two pit passes only.  Motion approved. Conkright moved Gabriel seconded that we accept Barbs report. Motion approved.

 

Emily reported for Parking and Gates. Not enough spaces for handicapped parking in Norwich Township lot. Too many cars and trucks in horse arena area and around Burke building. Cars and trunks driving right down midway.

NEW BUSINESS:

 

Krebs moved S Dever seconded that we pay Senior Fair premiums.  Motion approved. 

 

 Conkright moved Walton seconded that we adjourn. Motion approved
